Vorwort
Während der Vorbereitungen für den zurückliegenden globalen Klimastreik von Fridays for Future am 25. September diesen Jahres, haben wir einen Text über den Widerstand der Mapuche gegen die koloniale Besetzung ihrer Territorien und die kapitalistische Umweltzerstörung in diesen Gebieten übersetzt, welcher uns von den Genoss*innen der „Federacion Anarquista de Santiago“ (Anarchistische Föderation von Santiago de Chile/FAS) zur Verfügung gestellt wurde.
Die Mapuche sind eine indigene Bevölkerung, deren angestammte Territorien sich über die heutigen Gebiete der Staaten Chile und Argentinien erstrecken. Schon seit Jahrhunderten leisten die Mapuche erbitterten Widerstand gegen die koloniale Besetzung ihrer Gebiete, die sie als „Wallmapu“ bezeichnen, und die Unterdrückung ihrer Gemeinschaften und ihrer Kultur, die mit der Eroberung Lateinamerikas durch die europäischen Mächte seit Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts immer weiter fortgeschritten ist.
Und da weder die Besetzung ihrer Territorien ein Ende gefunden hat, noch die koloniale Unterdrückung bricht auch ihr Widerstand nicht ab: Seit 2008 kommt es in Wallmapu immer wieder zu Aktionen gegen den kapitalistischen Raubbau an den Ressourcen der Natur, vor allem Wasser und Holz. Die Mapuche haben durch eine Vielzahl an Farmbesetzungen, Blockaden und militanten Angriffen auf die Infrastruktur der Holzindustrie gezeigt, dass sie nicht dazu bereit sind, auch nur einen Meter weiter zurückzuweichen und ihre Territorien der Zerstörung preiszugeben. Sie kämpfen also für ihr Recht, selbst über das Leben auf ihren Gebieten zu bestimmen, und stehen wie viele andere indigene Gemeinschaften auch gleichzeitig an vorderster Front im weltweiten Kampf für Klimagerechtigkeit – trotz der brutalen und tödlichen Repression des chilenischen Staates und dem Fakt, dass ihr Kampf auch in der hiesigen Klimagerechtigkeitsbewegung noch viel zu wenig Beachtung findet.
Als Anarchist*innen sehen wir uns zur Solidarität mit den Kämpfen der Unterdrückten für Selbstbestimmung und Klimagerechtigkeit verpflichtet – egal ob sie hier vor Ort im Danneröder und Hambacher Forst, im rheinländischen Kohletagbau oder in den Wäldern und Tälern Wallmapus stattfinden.
Dazu gehört für uns vor allem, auf die Kämpfe aufmerksam zu machen, die sich normalerweise einem europäisch-zentrierten Blick auf die Welt entziehen und dafür zu sorgen, dass sie Stimme der Kämpfenden gehört wird. Wir glauben, dass die Veröffentlichung der Erklärung der FAS, die wir leider nicht wie geplant auf dem Klimastreik verlesen konnten, ein erster Schritt in Richtung dieses Ziels ist, auch wenn sie die Stimme der Menschen in Wallmapu selbst natürlich nicht ersetzen kann. Wir hoffen, dass wir in zukünftig deshalb auch andere Erklärungen der Mapuche-Gemeinschaften selbst veröffentlichen können.
Gleichzeitig hoffen wir, dass dieser erste wichtige Text Verbreitung findet und Aufmerksamkeit auf den Kampf der Mapuche lenkt. Nur so kann es gelingen, zukünftig die Kämpfe gegen die vom Kapitalismus verursachte Klimakrise über Nationalstaatsgrenzen hinweg zu stärken und zu verbinden.

Ob Wallmapu oder Danni – weltweit kämpfen für Klimagerechtigkeit und gegen Staat und Kapitalismus!
Der Text
Das Volk der Mapuche hat sich historisch gesehen gegen die Einführung des Extraktivismus (1) gewehrt. Sie haben der europäischen Invasion mit Kampf und Krieg widerstanden, und sie leisten auch heute noch angesichts der Ausweitung der Plünderungswirtschaft in Wallmapu Widerstand.
Während Faschismus und Extraktivismus auf dem gesamten lateinamerikanischen Kontinent voranschreiten, während gleichzeitig verschiedene Infrastrukturprojekte, die nur dem Zweck von Plünderung und Raubbau dienen, ausgeweitet werden, setzt der chilenische Staat auf eine Politik der Unterdrückung und politischen Verfolgung der Mapuche, insbesondere in Wallmapu, wo sich seit mehr als einem Jahrzehnt ein Krieg von geringer Intensität entwickelt. Die Militarisierung in den Gebieten und die Todeszahlen, die die Mapuche-Gemeinschaften verzeichnen, nehmen von Jahr zu Jahr zu. Unter den Toten befinden sich auch die Opfer sogenannter „Firmenmorde“, die in Komplizenschaft mit dem Staat und seinen Institutionen verübt werden. Hinter ihnen verbirgt sich die Ermordung von Verteidiger*innen der indigenen Territorien, wie es beim Femizid an der Mapuche-Aktivistin Macarena Valdés der Fall war (2).
In diesem Jahr nutzte die Regierung von Sebastian Piñera (3) die Pandemie für Angriffe auf das angestammten Territorium der Mapuche und um eine rassistische Welle auf die Straßen zu bringen, die von ultrarechten Bereichen der Gesellschaft und Konzernbossen, vor allem aus der Forstwirtschaft und dem Speditionssektor, unterstützt wird – eine Situation, die weitere Repressionen rechtfertigt, um ihre Projekte der Rohstoffplünderung weiter auszubauen (4).
Unterdessen wehren sich die politischen Gefangenen der Mapuche gegen Hungerstreiks in den Gefängnissen und fordern, dass faire Gerichtsverfahren durchgeführt und ihre Weltanschauung respektiert wird.
Diese Situation tritt jedoch nicht nur auf dem Territorium der Mapuche auf, denn seit den Zeiten der europäischen Invasion war die chilenische Region, wie auch andere Gebiete Lateinamerikas, Gegenstand von Plünderungen und Enteignungen. Ihre Funktion im Getriebe der Weltwirtschaft war die eines Korbes von natürlichen Ressourcen für die Industrien der ersten Welt.
Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte hat sich an der Situation nichts geändert. Landwirtschaft, Bergbau und Forstwirtschaft sind die Aktivitäten, die diese Gesellschaft erhalten und sie gleichzeitig verdammen.
In der chilenischen Region sind echte Opfer für das Kapital erbracht worden. Hier gibt es Gebiete, in denen Zerstörung, Verseuchung und buchstäblich der Tod regieren. Sowohl die menschliche als auch die nichtmenschliche Natur sind der Reproduktion des Geldes ausgeliefert. Um nur einige der betroffenen Gebiete zu nennen: Puchuncaví Quintero, Tocopilla, Coronel und viele andere.

(1) Mit „Extraktivismus“ ist eine Form des Wirtschaftens gemeint, die auf Rohstoff-Export und häufig auf Raubbau basiert und vor allem in den Ländern des globalen Südens auftritt. Auf die Weiterverarbeitung von Ressourcen wird meist verzichtet, Extraktivismus geschieht meist zum Nachteil lokaler indigener Gemeinschaften und der Biodiviersität in ihren Territorien.
(2) Macarena Valdes war eine indigene, feministische Umweltaktivistin, die gemeinsam mit anderen gegen den Bau eines Wasserkraftwerkes durch den österreichischen Konzern PG Global in der chilenischen Region Los Lagos kämpfte. Sie wurde 2016 erhängt in ihrem zu Hause aufgefunden. Die chilenischen Behörden weigern sich, Ermittlungen aufzunehmen und behaupten Macarena hätte Suizid begangen, doch die vorhandenen Beweise deuten darauf hin, dass die Mutter von vier Kindern ermordet wurde, weil sie sich mit anderen gegen die Zerstörung der Umwelt in den indigenen Gebieten organisierte. Sie wäre eine von hunderten Umweltaktivist*innen, viele von ihnen Frauen*, die weltweit jedes Jahr ermordet werden. (3) Sebastian Pinera ist der rechte, neoliberale Staatspräsident Chiles und ein milliardenschwerer Unternehmer. Er rief im Oktober 2019 angesichts der sozialen Revolte gegen die massive Ungleichheit im Land den Notstand aus und setzte Militär und Polizei gegen die Proteste ein, wobei Dutzende Kämpfende ermordet, Hunderte gefoltert und Tausende verhaftet wurden. Durante las preparaciones para la reciente huelga climática mundial de Fridays for Future, el 25 de septiembre de este año, tradujimos un texto sobre la resistencia mapuche contra la ocupación colonial de sus territorios y la destrucción ambiental capitalista en estas zonas, que fue escrito por lxs compas de la “Federación Anarquista de Santiago” (FAS).
Lxs mapuches son una población indígena cuyxs territorios ancestrales se extienden sobre los actuales territorios de los estados de Chile y Argentina. Durante siglos, lxs mapuches han resistido con fiereza la ocupación colonial de sus territorios, a los que llaman “Wallmapu”, y la opresión de sus comunidades y su cultura, que ha seguido creciendo desde finales del siglo XV con la conquista de América Latina por las potencias europeas.
Y como ni la ocupación de sus territorios ni la opresión colonial han llegado a su fin, su resistencia tampoco ha cesado: desde 2008, Wallmapu ha sido escenario de repetidas acciones contra la sobreexplotación capitalista de los recursos naturales, especialmente el agua y la madera. Los mapuches han demostrado a través de una multitud de ocupaciones de granjas, bloqueos y ataques militantes a la infraestructura de la industria maderera que no están dispuestos a retroceder ni siquiera un metro más y abandonar sus territorios a la destrucción. Así pues, están luchando por su derecho a decidir por sí mismos sobre la vida en sus territorios, y como muchas otras comunidades indígenas están al mismo tiempo también a la vanguardia de la lucha mundial por la justicia climática, a pesar de la brutal y mortal represión del Estado chileno y del hecho de que su lucha todavía se considera demasiado poco en el movimiento local de justicia climática.
Como anarquistas, nos sentimos obligadxs a mostrar solidaridad con las luchas de los oprimidxs por la autodeterminación y la justicia climática – no importa si tienen lugar aquí en los bosques de Dannerode (“Danni”) y Hambach, en las minas de carbón de Renania o en los bosques y valles de Wallmapu.
Para nosotrxs, esto significa sobre todo llamar la atención sobre las luchas que normalmente eluden una visión del mundo centrada en Europa y asegurar que la voz de los que luchan sea escuchada. Creemos que la publicación de la declaración de la FAS, que lamentablemente no pudimos leer en la huelga climática como estaba previsto, es un primer paso hacia este objetivo, aunque no puede, por supuesto, sustituir la voz del pueblo de Wallmapu en sí. Por lo tanto, esperamos que en el futuro podamos publicar otras declaraciones de las propias comunidades mapuches.
Al mismo tiempo, esperamos que este primer texto importante se distribuya y llame la atención sobre la lucha de lxs mapuches. Esta es la única manera de fortalecer y unir las luchas contra la crisis climática causada por el capitalismo a través de las fronteras nacionales en el futuro.

Ya sea Wallmapu o Danni – ¡lucha mundial por la justicia climática y contra el estado y el capitalismo!
El Pueblo Mapuche ha resistido históricamente a la implantación extractivista. Resistió con lucha y guerra la invasión europea, y sigue resistiendo al día de hoy frente a la expansión de la economía de rapiña en Wallmapu.
Mientras el fascismo y el Extractivismo avanzan en todo el continente latinoamericano, al mismo tiempo que se extienden diversos proyectos de infraestructura para el saqueo, el Estado de Chile, reprime y hace persecución política, sobre todo en Wallmapu que hace ya más de una década desarrolla una guerra de baja intensidad. La militarización y la muerte de comuneros mapuche cada año se recrudece, inclusive el sicariato empresarial en complicidad al Estado y sus instituciones ocultan el asesinato de defensores del territorio, tal como fue con el feminicidio de la activista mapuche Macarena Valdés.
Este año, el gobierno de Piñera aprovechó la pandemia para golpear el territorio ancestral mapuche, sacando a las calles una ola racista amparada por sectores de ultraderecha y empresarios principalmente de empresas forestales y dueños de camiones, situación que viene a justificar mayor represión para seguir expandiendo sus proyectos extractivistas.
Mientras presxs políticxs mapuche resisten en las cárceles huelgas de hambre que exigen que se cumplan procesos judiciales justos y respeto a su cosmovisión.
Sin embargo esta situación no sólo sucede en territorio mapuche, desde los tiempos de la invasión europea, la región Chilena, así como otros territorios de Latinoamérica, ha sido objeto de rapiña y desposesión. Su función en el engranaje de la economía mundial ha sido la de canasta de recursos naturales para las industrias del primer mundo.
Con el pasar de las décadas la situación no ha cambiado. La agricultura, la minería, la silvicultura, son las actividades que sostienen esta sociedad y a la vez la condenan.
Se ha ido construyendo en el territorio de la región chilena verdaderas zonas de sacrificio para el capital. Zonas en las que reina la destrucción, la contaminación, y literalmente, la muerte. Tanto la naturaleza humana como la no humana están a merced de la reproducción del dinero. Por sólo mencionar algunos territorios de sacrificio tenemos: Puchuncaví Quintero, Tocopilla, Coronel, entre tantos otros.

During the preparations for the recent global climate strike by Fridays for Future on September 25 this year, we translated a text on Mapuche resistance to the colonial occupation of their territories and the capitalist environmental destruction in these areas, which was provided by comrades from the “Federacion Anarquista de Santiago” (Anarchist Federation of Santiago de Chile/FAS).
The Mapuche are an indigenous population whose ancestral territories extend over the present territories of the states of Chile and Argentina. For centuries, the Mapuche have been fiercely resisting the colonial occupation of their territories, which they call “Wallmapu”, and the oppression of their communities and culture, which has continued to grow since the end of the 15th century with the conquest of Latin America by the European powers.
And since neither the occupation of their territories nor the colonial oppression has come to an end, their resistance has not ceased either: since 2008, Wallmapu has been the scene of repeated actions against the capitalist overexploitation of natural resources, especially water and wood. The Mapuche have shown through a multitude of farm occupations, blockades and militant attacks on the infrastructure of the timber industry that they are not willing to retreat even one meter further and abandon their territories to destruction. They are therefore fighting for their right to determine the life on their territories themselves, and like many other indigenous communities they are at the forefront of the global struggle for climate justice – despite the brutal and deadly repression of the Chilean state and the fact that their struggle is still far too little recognized in the local climate justice movement.
As anarchists, we feel obliged to show solidarity with the struggles of the oppressed for self-determination and climate justice – no matter whether they take place here in the Dannerode and Hambach forests, in the Rhineland coal mines or in the forests and valleys of Wallmapu.
For us, this means above all to draw attention to the struggles that normally elude a European-centered view of the world and to make sure that the voice of those fighting is heard. We believe that the publication of the FAS statement, which unfortunately we were not able to read out on the climate strike as planned, is a first step towards this goal, even though it cannot of course replace the voice of the people in Wallmapu itself. We hope that in the future we will therefore be able to publish other statements of the Mapuche communities themselves.
At the same time, we hope that this first important text will be disseminated and draw attention to the Mapuche struggle. This is the only way to strengthen and unite the struggles against the climate crisis caused by capitalism across national borders in the future.

Whether Wallmapu or Danni – worldwide fight for climate justice and against state and capitalism!
The Mapuche people have historically resisted the introduction of extractivism (1). They resisted the European invasion with struggle and war, and they continue to resist today in the face of the expansion of the plundering economy in Wallmapu.
While fascism and extractivism are advancing throughout the entire Latin American continent, while at the same time various infrastructure projects are being expanded for the sole purpose of looting and pillaging, the Chilean state is pursuing a policy of repression and political persecution of the Mapuche, especially in Wallmapu, where a low-intensity war has been developing for more than a decade. Militarization in the areas and the death toll recorded by Mapuche communities is increasing year by year. Among the dead are also the victims of so-called “corporate killings” committed in complicity with the state and its institutions. Behind them lies the murder of indigenous territory defenders, as was the case with the femicide of Mapuche activist Macarena Valdés (2).
This year, the government of Sebastian Piñera (3) used the pandemic to attack the Mapuche indigenous territory and to bring a wave of racism to the streets, supported by the ultra-right sectors of society and corporate bosses, especially in the forestry and trucking sectors, a situation that justifies further repression in order to expand their projects of resource plunder (4).
Meanwhile, Mapuche political prisoners resist with hunger strikes in the prisons and demand that fair trials be held and their ideology respected.
However, this situation does not only occur on Mapuche territory, because since the time of the European invasion, the Chilean region, like other areas of Latin America, has been the subject of looting and expropriation. Its function in the gear of the world economy was that of a basket of natural resources for the industries of the first world.
Over the decades, the situation has not changed. Agriculture, mining and forestry are the activities that maintain this society and at the same time condemn it.
Real sacrifices have been made for capital in the Chilean region. There are areas where destruction, contamination and literally death reign. Both human and non-human nature is at the mercy of the reproduction of money. To name but a few of the areas affected: Puchuncaví Quintero, Tocopilla, Coronel and many others.

(1) “Extractivism” refers to a form of economic activity based on the export of raw materials and often on overexploitation, which occurs primarily in the countries of the global South. The processing of resources is usually abandoned, and extractivism usually occurs to the detriment of local indigenous communities and the biodiversity in their territories.
(2) Macarena Valdes was an indigenous, feminist environmental activist who fought together with others against the construction of a hydroelectric power plant by the Austrian company PG Global in the Chilean region of Los Lagos. She was found hanged in her home in 2016. The Chilean authorities refuse to investigate and claim Macarena committed suicide, but the available evidence suggests that the mother of four children was murdered because she and others organized against the destruction of the environment in the indigenous areas. (3) Sebastian Pinera is the right-wing neoliberal president of Chile and a billionaire entrepreneur. He declared a state of emergency in October 2019 in the face of the social revolt against the massive inequality in the country and used the military and police against the protests, killing dozens of fighters, torturing hundreds and arresting thousands.
